Social Work

HMS’s full-time social worker specializes in counseling children with special needs and their families. She provides support to students, families and staff. An advocate for students, she connects families with community resources and benefits and helps them to navigate the social-service system. She eases the transition when a student enrolls at HMS and when the student leaves at graduation or for another placement.

The social worker facilitates the interdisciplinary team process, keeping communication lines open among all parties. When a child is ill or hospitalized, she communicates regularly with their family, maintaining the connection between school and home.

The social worker is essential to post-21 transition planning, a major strength of HMS’s services. With intimate knowledge of our students and programs available throughout the area, she ensures that families begin planning at the appropriate time and supports them as they investigate options and resources for their soon-to-graduate son or daughter.
